Family Home in Southbank, York with a Glass Bridge
The brief for this project was to provide additional accommodation in our client's home - bedrooms, garage and utility e.t.c. With a steeply sloping site we were able to deliver their brief and also include a winter garden with a glass bridge over.
In order to appease the Planning Department, from the street the extension appears to be a typical subservient side extension using similar materials and design language to the existing dwelling and again from a glimpse of side of the house there is no suggest of what lies within. Carefully considered remodeling creates spaces that better suit the demands of modern living, the kichen /dining area in particular is a visual feast!
Extensive use of glass gives high levels of daylight with minimal framing, providing great views to the rear garden and flooding the winter garden with nourishing natural light. The site boundary tapers as it runs towards the rear, a further restriction that has been overcome with a robust design approach, the layouts are also configured to allow future possible accomodation to be provided in the roofspace with minimal alteration.
