Family Home in Southbank, York with a Glass Bridge

Our client’s wishes for this project was to extend the living space and accommodation in their home; we came up with a modernistic approach to contrast the 1930’s property, featuring a winter garden and a “glass bridge” to the rear, but a subservient frontage to compliment the street style to the front.

The property sits on a downward slope and tapers back towards the rear garden; this allowed us to create something truly unique for the plot style. The kitchen and living spaces are a true visual feast – extensive use of glass gives high levels of daylight with minimal framing, providing great views to the rear garden. The addition of a window lanterns above the dining area and the floor to ceiling windows, allows the glass bridge and winter garden to be flooded with natural light.

With the unusual site layout, the restriction of square and equal space has been overcome with a robust design approach, and the designs also allow for future accommodation to be provided in the roof space with minimal alteration.
